Energize Your Day as a Business Owner

How to Go From Exhausted to Exhilarated EVERY DAY as an Owner

September 24, 20244 min read

As I meet with company founders or owners, I find that many of them are just exhausted. They have labored hard and long for several years and are beginning to question how much longer they can continue doing what they’re doing.

Would that describe you? If so, read on to discover how you can move from exhausted to exhilarated EVERY DAY.

When people start a company, they must become good at many things. They often create the product or service the company sells. They sell, package, and ship the product. They learn a great deal about marketing. The list goes on . . .

The problem is they are “good” at many things but only great at one or two things. They often pull themselves out of what they are really great at doing and insert themselves into what they are good at doing. Doing so dilutes their contribution to the company and stretches them beyond what is wise.

Over the years, spreading yourself too thin exhausts you! You are just too spread, doing too many things, and doing things you don’t even like doing. That’s not a fun way to work or live.

Instead, determine what really lights your fire. What are you great at doing and what energizes you when you do it?

Decorative LineKey #1 – Work 80% of the time in your super-strengths!

Most everyone is really great at something. No one is great at everything. I’ve found through the years that people don’t value their strengths. Because they come so naturally to us, we assume that everyone can do them. That’s not true. They are easy to you because they are how you are wired. You are naturally gifted in those areas.

For example, if you own a company, you can assume that you must manage the day to day operational load. If operations are your thing, then go for it, but if you are best at sales, don’t pull yourself out of sales. Stay in sales, and hire someone who's good at operations.

If you stink at operations, trying to manage things will exhaust you. It just doesn’t fit you. You want to find someone who's gifted in operations. For him or her, operations are easy.

When you work in your strengths, you will be successful and productive. It doesn’t stress you. It energizes you!

Don’t take yourself out of what you do best to do something you do poorly. That’s a sure way to exhaust and discourage yourself and to limit your company.

Key #2 – Delegate everything else to others.

Once you discover and place yourself in your area of strength within your company, delegate as much as possible to others who have strengths in other areas.

Finding people who can take on substantial loads in your areas of weakness will free you up and improve those areas of responsibility. If you find and empower the right people, they will enable your company to grow.

It takes time to find and develop the right people, but doing so structures your company for tremendous growth and prosperity.

Sometimes you already have them on your team. They just need to be reallocated. For other roles, you may need to find the right person.

Finding and developing the right people is the key to growing a business without personally exhausting yourself.

You can’t do everything well, You don’t even want to try. You want to find good people who have great ability to help move your company forward

Key #3 - Watch your company grow and thrive.

Once you position yourself properly and hire your key dream team members, your company takes a life of its own. Things just begin to work.

It doesn’t mean you will never have challenges, but if you have the right people on the right bus and in the right seat, things will surge ahead.

Most people think they need to grow so that they can structure their company. In reality, you need to structure your company properly to grow. The growth happens when you properly structure your company.

Imagine going to work each day tasked with doing things you love doing and you’re really good at doing. How hard is that?

You move from an exhausted owner or manager to someone who steps to the plate and hits a double, triple, or home run on a daily basis. You find yourself re-energized and ready to go EVERY DAY!
